DOUBT: a Parable
by John Patrick Shanley

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Drama Desk Award and the Tony Award for Best Play, DOUBT was first produced in 2004.  While a serious drama about complicated issues, it contains humor as well as entertainment.  The theme of doubt versus certainty unfolds against the background of the 60’s—a period of social change throughout the land and within the Catholic Church.

TWELFTH NIGHT
by William Shakespeare

TWELFTH NIGHT is believed to have been written just over 400 years ago, but this madcap tale of mistaken identities and misplaced affection is truly timeless.  Shakespeare's gender-bending plot revolves around Viola and Sebastian, fraternal twins who are separated in a shipwreck, each one erroneously believing the other to be dead.  Viola lands in the fictional kingdom of Illyria and disguises herself as a boy to become the attendant of Orsino, the Duke of Illyria, who is in love with Countess Olivia.  When Olivia rebuffs Orsino's advances, he sends Viola (newly renamed Cesario) to woo her for him, but Olivia falls in love with Cesario/Viola instead.  Meanwhile... Sebastian also arrives in Illyria. Since he is a dead ringer for his sister, everyone thinks he is Cesario and comic complications ensue.  Add to that Olivia’s chaotic household that includes a witty jester, her pranking maid, her partying uncle, and a pompous steward, and the merriment will multiply.

STUART LITTLE
Adapted by Joseph Robinette
Based on the book by E. B. White
VSU Theatre & Dance's Annual Touring Theatre-for Youth Production
This production will be touring South Georgia and North Florida in February and March 2009. For booking inquiries, please contact Prof. Jacque Wheeler at jwheeler@valdosta.edu.

This is the endearing classic about a mouse named Stuart who is born into an ordinary New York family. All the charm, wisdom and joy of the E.B. White original are captured in this adaptation by Joseph Robinette, who also dramatized the highly acclaimed stage version of Charlotte's Web. The many adventures—both big and small—of Stuart Little are brought vividly to life in this story-theatre presentation. The acting ensemble plays many human and animal roles in a series of delightful scenes that make up the marvelous maneuverings of a mild-mannered mouse trying to survive in a "real people's world."

THE GRAPES OF WRATH
by Frank Galati, from the novel by John Steinbeck

The story of the Joad family and their flight from the Dust Bowl of Oklahoma is a majestic and deeply affecting study of the American soul.  A Tony Award winner for Best Play, this adaptation of John Steinbeck’s work by Frank Galati (Ragtime, Seussical) holds to the simplicity and directness of the original novel to convey its timeless message of strength and perseverance.

ON THE VERGE or The Geography of Yearning
by Eric Overmyer

In 1888, three Victorian American Lady Adventurers set out for Terra Incognita and discover along the way that they are traversing the wilderness of “chronology as well as geography!” With exhilaration and wonder, our intrepid heroines sally forth into this brave new world where they land “smack dab in the middle” of the 1950s.

FOOTLOOSE
Stage Adaptation by DEAN PITCHFORD and WALTER BOBBIE
Based on the Original Screenplay by DEAN PITCHFORD
Music by TONY SNOW
Lyrics by DEAN PITCHFORD
Additional Music by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by the local preacher, determined to exercise the control over the town's youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him. To the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated top 40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies!) and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, FOOTLOOSE celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
