Degrees and Minors:
We offer four minors in the department:
The Bachelor of Fine Arts
Traditionally the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree differs from the Bachelor of Arts degree in that it is a pre-professional degree with less emphasis on an overall, liberal arts education. The "major" component of the degree plan generally will require substantially more hours than are required in a typical BA "major". The three degree programs offered by our department require 42-50 semester hours in the major area. Additionally, the BA program typically has a foreign language requirement, but there is no foreign language requirement in our BFA programs.
We offer three degree programs in the department:
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Mass Media with emphases in Audio, Video, International Documentary Production, and Broadcast Journalism
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with training in performance, choreography and dance education.
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Speech Communication with emphases in Public Relations, Organizational Communication, Intercultural Communication, and General Speech
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre with emphases in Traditional Theatre Performance, Technical Theatre Production, and Musical Theatre
Each degree plan begins with 42 semester hours of the standard VSU Junior College Core Curriculum (Areas A through E). To that base the department adds 18 semester hours of Junior College course work related to the major (Area F).
The Senior College Curriculum adds 60 semester hours to the degree plan. Click on the Degree Plan above to see the Junior College work related to the major and the Senior College Curriculum.
